Over the past year, ArtMill has carried out an extensive programme of local and transnational dissemination activities connected to the Inter-Species Refuge, developed within the framework of the Transformative Territories. These activities engaged nearly 100 students from higher education and secondary institutions, as well as professionals and community actors from the environmental and civic sectors.
Through workshops, site visits, hands-on participation, and public presentations, ArtMill positioned the Inter-Species Refuge as both a learning environment and a living laboratory for exploring climate resilience, multispecies coexistence, and the role of artistic practice in territorial transformation.
Educational Workshops and On-Site Immersions at ArtMill
Between April and October 2025, ArtMill hosted several groups of students from Czech educational institutions, each programme tailored to disciplinary backgrounds while rooted in direct engagement with the site.
April 25–28, 2025
Students from the Film and Television Academy in Prague (FAMU), Department of Photography – Studio of Documentary Strategies (23 students), took part in an intensive on-site workshop focusing on climate resilience of territories. Activities included:
- Environmental observation and immersion through 3D scanning led by Jakub Tulinger, Transformative Territories artist-in-residence.
- “Forest Bathing” practices facilitated by Jonáš Jauernig.
- Soundscape field recording as a form of eco-somatic healing, led by Tomáš Vobořil.
May 2–5, 2025
A second group from FAMU, Department of Audiovisual Studies (16 students), developed site-specific films on location. The workshop explored experimental cinematic practices, including natural film-developing techniques using plants found on-site, directly linking artistic processes to the ecological materiality of the Inter-Species Refuge.
September 6–12, 2025
Students from the School of Textile Design Prague (12 students) participated in a landscape photography plein air, guided by Jakub Tulinger. The programme focused on visual perception, immersion, and long-duration observation as methods for engaging with landscape and multispecies environments.
October 10–12, 2025
Members of the Skautský oddíl Veronika youth group (16 participants) contributed practically to the project by assisting with the construction of stations on-site, strengthening the connection between learning, stewardship, and collective care for the territory.
