Transformative Territories

performing transition through the arts

Research creation project by INLAND (Spain) : Think a Forest – regenerative system 2

As part of Transformative Territories, INLAND is organising the Think a Forest – regenerative system 2 project, which represents a social and ecological process based on the study of the forest-biome and forest policy of the North Peninsula, activating local communities and inter-species relations in the form of an installation.

The research begins in partnership with the scientific community and continues with a field intervention in a plot of eucalyptus forest in the Northern Spanish Mountains, where the INLAND shepherds’ school is also being developed. The work planned with the artists Sergio Bravo and Martha Fely will formalise the generation of images, as well as culinary experimentation and the processing of biomaterials from the forest, from the distillation of plant species present in the forest to the search for mushrooms. The artists will also design and build a Forest Pavilion as a sauna-distiller, a micro-architecture in which eucalyptus is burnt to activate the steam and the system for distilling the essential oils from the eucalyptus itself. The process of their construction would be shown in the exhibition, with models, plans, documentation and the ceramic pieces and images produced digitally.

INLAND welcomes the project artist Sergio Montero. His practice evolves through pedagogy, art, design and architecture with an interest in how the profession and education can handle current issues that affect how the planet is affected by the interiors, spaces and environments we inhabit in everyday life. The focus of his teaching and work often explores how different perspectives can be included in the art of making and developing ideas that address a current issue.

INLAND will welcome artist Martha Fely, winner of the COAL 2024 Award mention Transformative Territories, to take part in the Think a Forest – regenerative system 2 project.
