As part of Transformative Territories, Tavros is developing the Vanishing Landscapes project. Vanishing Landscapes aims to create a paradigmatic shift in how we think, see, and experience the environmental crisis. The project underscores the significant role that arts and culture can play in both short- and long-term climate solutions, fostering healing, resilience, and sustainability in rural areas of Greece.
To achieve this, Tavros will reimagine the Vaso Katraki Museum as an institution that provides a much-needed space for communities to gather, learn, and connect. This vision aligns with the museum’s original mission as an active community hub for the arts, featuring exhibition spaces, printmaking workshops, and gardens nestled by the lagoon. The project also seeks to disseminate knowledge about the invaluable resources of the Messolonghi–Aitoliko Lagoon area, home to a rich variety of threatened flora and fauna, and to engage the local community in protecting this ecosystem through interdisciplinary collaboration.
As part of the project, Tavros will collaborate with Yannis Papadopoulos, who will lead a four-day workshop for art students focused on representing landscapes that are gradually vanishing. Students will revive the museum’s printmaking studios, creating a series of posters inspired by the natural environment and its species. These posters will be distributed in local schools and displayed in public spaces around Aitoliko.
Additionally, Tavros will host artist Nuno da Luz, recipient of the COAL 2024 Award for Transformative Territories, as a key participant in the Creative Assembly component of the Vanishing Landscapes program.
